A 17-year-old girl has exposed the scale of Islamic sex tourism in India where Muslim men from the Middle East and Africa are buying ‘one month wives’ for sex. The victim, Nausheen Tobassum, revealed the scale of the problem when she escaped from her home last month after her parents pressurised her to consummate a forced marriage to a middle aged Sudanese man who had paid around £1,200 for her to be his ‘wife’ for four weeks.

My family would hit me when I complained,’ she told CNN. ‘They told me you belong in your husband’s house – that is your life.’ In November last year, Gul packed a bag and ran away from her husband with a young Afghan man. ‘I’d tried to kill myself with poison several times but it didn’t work,’ she said. ‘I hated my life and I had to escape.

Nearly half of South Sudanese girls between 15 and 19 years old are married. Some were as young as 12 years old when they were forced to marry men who, in many cases, were far older than them. Young people between the ages of 16 and 25 are most at risk of being forced into marriage in the UK – with children as young as two being targeted.
Foreign Office Minister for Consular Policy Mark Simmonds said: “Forcing someone to marry is an appalling and indefensible practice which is why the Government is committed to eliminating it, with young people particularly vulnerable.
“We will use every means at our disposal, whether it’s engaging with schools and communities or through using mobiles and social media to reach potential victims. We want those who are worried about forced marriage to know that there is help out there.”

MANY vulnerable Scots are living in fear of their spouse, with some feeling suicidal, despite new laws aimed to protect victims of forced marriage.
DISABLED Scots are being forced into marriage against their will, according to a shocking report.
Support groups say vulnerable people with mental and physical disabilities are living in fear of a spouse they have been forced to marry. Since a new law was introduced a year ago to protect victims of forced marriage, 75 Scots have called a helpline. The figure is up on last year despite the new legislation and a third of those people are men. We can exclusively reveal that around four per cent of those calls include frantic cries for help from disabled people trapped in a forced marriage.
At least two of the people who rang the helpline were in fear of their lives, five were suicidal, nine were in fear of being physically abused by their partner and 20 were suffering from depression or anxiety. Six were worried about losing their right to live in Britain if they left the marriage.
