{"id":1498,"date":"2018-03-14T15:10:18","date_gmt":"2018-03-14T15:10:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.haloproject.org.uk\/blog\/?p=1498"},"modified":"2018-03-14T15:10:18","modified_gmt":"2018-03-14T15:10:18","slug":"telford-leader-calls-for-child-sexual-exploitation-inquiry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.haloproject.org.uk\/blog\/telford-leader-calls-for-child-sexual-exploitation-inquiry\/","title":{"rendered":"Telford leader calls for child sexual exploitation inquiry"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"standfirst\">\n<p>Telford &amp; Wrekin Council has called on home secretary Amber Rudd to commission a public inquiry into cases of child sexual exploitation (CSE), specifically in Telford.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"storytext\">\n<p>A number of reviews of CSE have already taken place in the borough but the council now believes only an independent inquiry commissioned by the government is now appropriate.<\/p>\n<p>Seven men were jailed in 2013 for child prostitution in the town after the Operation Chalice investigation.<\/p>\n<p>However, fresh\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/news\/uk-news\/britains-worst-ever-child-grooming-12165527\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">allegations were made in the Sunday Mirror<\/a>\u00a0that up to 1,000 children could have been victim to abuse in Telford over the last 40 years.<\/p>\n<p>Telford &amp; Wrekin Council\u2019s leader Shaun Davies (Lab) said: \u201cI grew up in Telford and was at school when many of the horrific cases reported over the last few days took place.
