{"id":1233,"date":"2017-03-09T15:05:30","date_gmt":"2017-03-09T15:05:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.haloproject.org.uk\/blog\/?p=1233"},"modified":"2017-03-09T15:05:30","modified_gmt":"2017-03-09T15:05:30","slug":"met-police-still-dont-know-where-fgm-is-happening-after-32-years-without-a-conviction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.haloproject.org.uk\/blog\/met-police-still-dont-know-where-fgm-is-happening-after-32-years-without-a-conviction\/","title":{"rendered":"Met Police still don&#8217;t know where FGM is happening after 32 years without a conviction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The police inspector in charge of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/fgm\">Female Genital Mutilation<\/a>\u00a0(FGM)\u00a0investigations in London said\u00a0the Metropolitan Police\u00a0still does not know where young women and girls are being cut and disfigured.<\/p>\n<p>Inspector Allen Davis\u2019s\u00a0comments came as the NHS <a href=\"http:\/\/www.content.digital.nhs.uk\/catalogue\/PUB23494\/fgm-oct-2016-dec-2016-exp-rep.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">revealed there were nearly 5,500 new FGM cases<\/a> reported to hospitals, clinics and GPs in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>No one has ever been convicted of carrying out female genital mutilation in the UK despite it being illegal in the country since 1985.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Health\u2019s FGM Prevention Programme today revealed there were 5,484 new reports of FGM in 2016.
