{"id":1086,"date":"2016-03-11T16:25:55","date_gmt":"2016-03-11T16:25:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.haloproject.org.uk\/blog\/?p=1086"},"modified":"2021-12-01T15:04:39","modified_gmt":"2021-12-01T15:04:39","slug":"official-data-on-forced-marriages-in-uk-may-hide-true-scale-of-abuse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.haloproject.org.uk\/blog\/official-data-on-forced-marriages-in-uk-may-hide-true-scale-of-abuse\/","title":{"rendered":"Official data on forced marriages in UK may hide true scale of abuse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Figures showing that 1,220 possible cases of forced marriage in Britain were reported to the authorities last year may not reflect the full scale of abuse, the Home Office has said.<\/p>\n<p>The official figures show that the number of cases reported to the Forced\u00a0Marriage Unit (FMU) via its public helpline or email fell by 3%, or 47 cases, in 2015, continuing the downward trend of the last six years.<\/p>\n<p>The unit, a joint Home and Foreign Office operation, received 350 calls a month and offered help or support in 1,220 cases.
