{"id":1008,"date":"2015-11-06T16:23:10","date_gmt":"2015-11-06T16:23:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.haloproject.org.uk\/blog\/?p=1008"},"modified":"2021-12-01T15:00:48","modified_gmt":"2021-12-01T15:00:48","slug":"newham-has-second-highest-number-of-reported-honour-based-crime-in-london","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.haloproject.org.uk\/blog\/newham-has-second-highest-number-of-reported-honour-based-crime-in-london\/","title":{"rendered":"Newham has second highest number of reported honour based crime in London"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Statistics from a Freedom of Information request to the Met revealed that Newham had 59 reports of honour related crime since 2010.<\/p>\n<p>According to the figures, the borough came joint second with neighbouring Redbridge for the number of reported honour crimes in London, while Brent topped the list with 82 incidents.<\/p>\n<p>Sudarshan Bhuhi, chief executive officer of Stratford charity Aanchal Women\u2019s Aid, said she was not surprised by the figures and that she believes more incidents may be going unreported.<\/p>\n<p>She added: \u201cThe issue is quite close to my heart.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have been working in here and the economic divide is so diverse \u2013 there\u2019s not enough funds for specialised support.\u201d\u00a0Balvinder Saund, of the Sikh Women\u2019s Alliance (SWA) in Ilford, explained that the \u201cidea of honour\u201d was still present.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s about control and subservience.
